Water Hyacinth is a beautiful plant but does best outside. It generally is very easy to grow outside. I have kept it alive inside for some time but only in windows with strong Arizona sunshine. The photograph is of a plant blooming in December inside. I was using it in a Betta spawning tank.
These plants may choke natural waterways. I had thought these were on the Federal List of Noxious Weeds but on checking it's E. azurea (Ponterderiaceae) (anchored water hyacinth) which is listed. Still with the confusion so often associated with aquatic plant names, I would err on the side of caution.
